PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily adjust the carrying speed of a sheet while the sheet is carried for the length on the sheet on which one image is formed. SOLUTION: Marks formed on the sheet at predetermined intervals are detected. Detected intervals T1 are compared with a preliminarily set theoretical value T. When the detected intervals T1 are larger than the theoretical value T, an instruction for increasing the carrying speed is issued. Furthermore, the number of pulses to be adjusted is decided while the sheet is carried for the length on the sheet on which one image is formed, based on the difference between the theoretical value T and the detected intervals T1. For what every number of pulses one pulse is adjusted is decided, based on the decided number of pulses. A speed variable timing signal is generated every time the decided number of pulses are output. Small speed control pulse P1 is output from the rise/fall of the speed valuable timing signal at intervals shorter than the output intervals of the speed control pulse ((B)).
