<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the precision of detection of an image area as a detection object in an image to be processed. <P>SOLUTION: This image processor 1 sets an arbitrary target pixel p of the image to be processed, and sets the image area within a predetermined range from the target pixel. A normal plane is rotated by each predetermined angle in such a manner that a normal line of the target pixel p on a curved surface, indicating the density distribution in a set image area, serves as the axis of rotation; at each angle of that rotation, a curved line, which is obtained by cutting out the curved surface of the image area within a predetermined range from the target pixel by the normal plane, approximates to a circle by using a method of least squares; and the inverse number of the radius of the approximate circle is set as a normal curvature of the target pixel p. A Shape Index, which serves as the amount of characteristic, indicating the curved shape of the density distribution, is computed from the normal curvature which is computed at each angle of rotation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
