FRAGMENTED POLYMER HYDROGEL FOR ADHESION PREVENTION AND PREPARATION THEREOF

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cross-linked polymer composition and such a composition for tissue adhesion prevention and other purposes.

SOLUTION: This fragmented polymer composition includes a biocompatible cross-linked hydrogel with: a subunit size within a range 0.05-5 mm when fully hydrated; and 400-1300% equilibrium swell, and an in vivo degradation time within a range from one day to one year in a moist tissue environment. In one embodiment, the composition includes powder with a particle size within a range of 0.01-1.5 mm and moisture content below 20 wt%. In another embodiment, the composition includes partially hydrated hydrogel with a hydration rate within a range 50-95% at equilibrium swell.
