PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element whose heat generation can be suppressed and whose refractive index distribution can precisely be controlled, an optical unit, and to provide an imaging apparatus. SOLUTION: The optical element is equipped with a liquid crystal layer made of transparent liquid crystal molecules, a first electrode arranged along the liquid crystal layer, a plurality of second transparent electrodes which are each applied with a voltage in relation with the first electrode and arranged on the opposite side from the first electrode across the liquid crystal layer along the liquid crystal layer, and a plurality of transparent transistors which adjust voltages applied to the plurality of second electrodes respectively and are arranged along the liquid crystal layer together with the plurality of second electrodes.
