PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas discharge display device capable of improving strength of a barrier rib constituting a discharge area and, as a result, improving a product yield; and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: This PDP (gas discharge display device) 1 is so structured that light is emitted by plasma discharge by enclosing gas in a discharge area 25 formed for every cell in a barrier rib body 4 formed of a dielectric material interlaid between a transparent substrate 3 on the front side and a transparent substrate 4 on the back side both of which form a pair. The barrier rib body 4 is characterized by comprising: matrix-like barrier rib parts 5 and 6 forming each cell; grooves 7 respectively formed along a predetermined direction on the side opposite to the transparent substrate 3 on the front side within the barrier rib parts 5 and 6; and sustaining electrodes 11 and 12 overlaid on the inside surface of the respective grooves 7 for forming facing electrodes between the respective grooves 7.
