PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surge suppressor which is superior in chemical stability in a high temperature region and has a long lifetime by being coated with an oxide layer having an excellent adhesion to the main discharge electrode, and its manufacturing method, and provide a surge suppressor which easily prevents a brazing material melted at the time of brazing from flowing to a portion other than the jointing portion withoout applying separately a processing to prevent flowing of the melted brazing material, and its manufacturing method, and an electronic component and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The surge suppressor comprises a cylindrical ceramic 4 in which a conductive film 3 is formed split through a discharge gap 2, a pair of main discharge electrode members which are arranged opposed to each other through the cylindrical ceramic 4 and contact the conductive film 3, and a tube-shape ceramic 7 in which the cylindrical ceramic 4 is sealed together with a sealing gas 6. A brazing material 13 is interposed between the main discharge electrode members 5 and the tube-shape ceramic 7 and oxide films 11A and 12A are formed at the non-contacting portion with the brazing material 13 of the main discharge electrode members 5.
