PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of suppressing a charging sound and forming a high definition image and a process cartridge attachable and detachable to and from the image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: Regarding the image forming apparatus, a photoreceptor 11 has a first region successively laminated with at least an under coating layer, a charge generating layer and a charge transfer layer on a conductive support and a second region provided with an under coating layer on the conductive support. The photoreceptor and a charging member 12 are disposed to face each other apart a distance of≥20 to≤100μm. A spacer member 5 for holding the distance between the photoreceptor and the charging member is made to abut on the second region and is disposed in a main part section.
