PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially advantageous production method of phenoxyethyl halide useful as a synthetic intermediate of medicines, and to provide a tamsulosin-producing method using the production method. SOLUTION: (1) A compound of formula (I) is reacted with a halogen molecule in the presence of triphenylphosphine and a basic organic compound to produce a compound of formula (II), in formula (I) and formula (II), R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>, R<SP>5</SP>and R<SP>6</SP>are same or different and each is a substituent having no H nor active hydrogen, and X is a halogen atom. (2) By the method, 2-ethoxyphenol is reacted with a halogen molecule to obtain a compound of formula (IV) (wherein, X is the same as the above-mentioned), and the obtained is reacted with a compound of formula (V) to produce a compound of formula (VI) (tamsulosin).
