PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer capable of preventing the pressure of an endless belt on a flat part from being excessively large when forming the flat part below an ink jet head, and providing the tension to a conveying endless belt. SOLUTION: An outer circumferential surface of an endless belt 1 is formed in a stripe-shaped charging pattern with the polarity thereof alternately changed by using DC charging rollers 7, 8 of different polarity. A projection 13 is formed on a flat part 12 only at a part corresponding to one polarity of the endless belt 1, and charges of the polarity opposite to the one polarity of the belt are given to a conductive member 14 housed inside thereof. A recording paper 2 is sucked by the belt charging, and the belt is sucked to the flat part 12 by the electrostatic force caused by the charges of the conductive member 14 and the charges of the outer circumferential surface of the belt. The excessive belt pressure can be prevented by setting the belt suction forces of the most upstream part and the most downstream part in the conveying direction in which the belt tension of the belt suction force is applied as the belt pressure to the flat part 12 to be smaller than the belt suction force therebetween.
