<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control the temperature of a fixing roller surface as desired from the beginning of an image forming operation, even when some dispersion in distance between a non-contact type temperature detecting means and the fixing roller surface occurs. <P>SOLUTION: In the fixing device for an image forming apparatus equipped with the fixing roller 1, a pressure roller 2, contact type and non-contact type temperature detecting means 7 and 8 for detecting the temperature of the surface of the fixing roller 1 and a control means 9 for performing the energizing control of a heating means 3 incorporated with the fixing roller 1, the fixing device is provided with a storing means 10 for previously storing data on the distance X between the non-contact type temperature detecting means 7 and the surface of the fixing roller 1, and prior to an image forming operation after beginning the power supply to the heating means 3, the distance X between the means 7 and the surface of the fixing roller 1 is predicted by the control means 9 based on the data stored by the storing means 10, and at the image forming time, the detection temperature by the means 7 is corrected based on a correction value corresponding to the predicted distance X, then, the energizing control of the heating means 3 is performed by the control means 9. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
