<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital information receiving apparatus capable of efficiently receiving transmitted and bit-compressed video information and audio information and restoring the video information and the audio information by also correcting an error generated during the transmission. <P>SOLUTION: A transmission signal in which a video signal is bit-compressed by discrete cosine transformation and quadrature-phase-modulated, is received, the received signal is quadrature-phase-demodulated, an error generated during transmission is corrected using an error-correcting code, the bit-compressed video signal is extended using inverse discrete cosine transformation, an audio signal is also bit-extended, and the video signal and the audio signal are outputted.
