PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylindrical battery sealing an opening part by fitting a sealing plate to the opening part of a cylindrical battery case with bottom and crimping the opening part, and to provide the sealing method of the battery. SOLUTION: The assembly sealing plate is put on a supporting step 34a formed in the battery case 2 in which a power generation element 12 is housed, an opening end part 11 of the battery case 2 is bent inward in a preliminary crimping process, the outer circumferential surface of the battery case 2 is held with a receiving die 13, a crimping die 14 is lowered with a prescribed gap G kept to the inner circumferential surface of the receiving die 13, and the opening end part 11 of the battery case 2 is crimped by pressing toward the assembly sealing plate.
