PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To confirm presence or absence of disconnection of an optical fiber economically and in a simple manner by utilizing a protective cap for a ferrule having dust-proof and and anti-flaw effects. SOLUTION: The protective cap 21 of a ferrule for an optical plug is formed in a bottomed cylindrical form of which the inside diameter almost equal to the outside diameter of the ferrule 2 so as to be freely capped/uncapped on/from the top part of the ferrule 2 with the coated optical fiber inserted therein. The protective cap 21 itself is formed of a transparent or translucent member, and on a light exposure surface side of this top part, a light-shielding part Q reflecting and refracting visible rays is formed. The light-shielding part Q is formed by any of application of paint, sticking of a metal plate, a plastic sheet and the like, or stain finishing, and is arranged either inside or outside the light exposure surface at the top of the protective cap 21.
