PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily measure dimensions and areas of a huge building and the like by using a photographing apparatus. SOLUTION: The photographing apparatus comprises a photographing means which faces an object to be photographed, provides an image, and photographs it; a display means (step S1) which displays image data photographed by the photographing means; a distance measuring means which measures a distance from the object to be photographed by the photographing means; an index displaying means (step S3) which displays an index on the display means so as to superimpose it on the image data; a tilt angle measuring means (step S4-S8) which measures a tilt angle when the photographing means is tilted so that the index displayed by the index displaying means is made coincident with a desired object portion to be measured; and an actual dimension computing means (step S9) which computes an actual dimension of the object to be photographed, based on a measurement result of the distance measuring means and a measurement result of the tilt angle measuring means.
