PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a racing tire wherein the grip performance, processability and rubber strength at an elevated temperature are improved at a good balance, and a rubber composition capable of manufacturing a tread for the same. SOLUTION: The rubber composition contains, based on 100 pts.mass rubber component comprising a solution-polymerized styrene butadiene rubber satisfying the relation: (the amount of vinyl)≥100-2×(the amount of styrene), 70-150 pts.mass carbon black having a specific surface area by nitrogen adsorption of 100-300 m<SP>2</SP>/g, 30-170 pts.mass softener and 1-30 pts.mass compound of formula (1): -(R-S<SB>x</SB>)<SB>n</SB>- (wherein R is a group or formula (2); x is an integer of 3-6; n is an integer of 10-400; and m is an integer of 2-5).
