PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for production by which cyclopentene can be obtained in high yield and a high selectivity and at a high rate reaction when cyclopentadiene is hydrogenated to obtain the cyclopentene. SOLUTION: The method for producing the cyclopentene characterized as carrying out a hydrogenation reaction in the presence of a compound having a carbon-carbon triple bond when the cyclopentadiene is hydrogenated in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst to obtain the cyclopentene is provided. A hydrocarbon or an alcohol is preferable as the compound having the carbon-carbon triple bond and 2-(1-propynyl)-5-norbornene or 3-hexynol is especially preferable. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
