The measuring device includes one or more cascade-connected measuring probes comprising two or more plates (100). Up to three measuring surfaces along the length of the measuring device are formed as capacitors (101,102,103) respectively constituting a measuring capacitance, a reference capacitance and a full capacitance that are used by corresponding electronic system circuitry (106) for level-based calibration in the case of mixed media over the required temperature range, and for distinguishing between different filling media.
