The invention relates to a patient identification system (1) and to a corresponding method, with which a patient can be identified and located. This system comprises: a) means for characterizing the patient (4), and; b) means for locating the patient in the room provided in the form of at least one marker (3), whereby these means can be digitally detected. The inventive system is placed on at least one support (2), and the support is indirectly and/or directly attached to the patient.
