An interactive techniques for texture editing on a image. It utilizes self-similarity to replicate intended operations globally over an image. Any type of digitized image medium is supported for use with this invention, be it computer generated, hand drawn, painted, scanned, or such like. This invention uses multi-scale neighbourhoods to assess the similarity of pixels within a texture. However, neighbourhood matching is not employed to generate new instances of a texture. Instead, the present invention locates similar neighbourhoods for the purpose of replicating editing operations on the original texture itself, thereby creating a fundamentally new texture. This general approach is applied to texture painting, cloning and warping. These global operations can be performed interactively, most often directed with just a single mouse movement. |
