In a disc brake comprising hydraulic pistons 6 for applying pads 8 to opposite faces of a disc (not shown), shims 1 of spring steel or other resilient material having dimples 2, 3 are located between the pistons and the backing plates 7 of the respective pads with the projecting face of the dimples in engagement with the backing plates. Each shim is made with a pair of dimples 2 and a pair of dimples 3, the dimples of each pair being pressed in opposite faces of the shim so that the shims can be used either way up (right or left handed). Each shim has projecting tongues 10 to locate it in guides in the brake caliper housing (Fig. 5, not shown). |
