Multiple step super charging apparatus for an internal combustion engine

The engine has two parallel cylinder banks and two charging pumps. Both pumps (6,7) are positioned in the V-shaped chamber (5) between the cylinder banks. The first pump (6) is a low-pressure charging pump, the second one (7) is a high-pressure charging pump. At least one of the pumps is driven electrically or hydraulically. The RPM of the first pump is regulated via a first bypass valve (14) and variable turbine geometry. The second pump RPM is controlled by the same valve.
