Message transmission system and method

There is described herein a system and method for providing routing information for messages sent to or from an application connected to a mobile telecommunications network. The method includes providing at least one location network element containing location information for the application and at least one switch network element providing a static connection between the application and a mobile switching centre of the mobile network. The location network element and the switch network element are connected via a data transfer link separate to the mobile network. The method further includes monitoring the load on the at least one switch network element at the location network element and supplying routing information from the location network element, wherein the routing information supplied is dependent on the load determined on the switch network element.
