A bolt restraint mechanism comprising a sliding latch plate (figure 4a, 20) that includes a catch element to engage a catch feature on the bolt 3, and a latch plate drive that biases the latch plate to the engage catch feature. The latch plate comprises opposing catch elements and is adjustable to reverse the bias of the latch plate to restrain the bolt using either catch element. The sliding latch plate may also have an aperture (figure 4a, 41) arranged for the bolt to slide within. The restraint mechanism may be used to retain a bolt on a multi-point bolting system. The mechanism restrains the bolt in the retracted position while the door is open ensuring the bolt does not interfere with the door frame during closure of the door. When the door is closed, the bolt is released to allow the closed door to be secured. The mechanism may be reversible for use on inward and outward opening doors. |
