Security system for motor vehicle with a laser ignition module

A motor vehicle has an internal combustion engine 24 which comprises a laser ignition module 20 for igniting the mixture in the cylinder of the engine. The laser ignition module 20 includes a microprocessor connected to receive data over a data link 18 and programmed to permit correct functioning of the laser ignition module 20 only after receipt of a security code over the data link. The connections to the laser fibres may be further embedded into the cylinder head of the engine making it impossible to remove the ignition module without first removing the cylinder head, or the module may be attached to the cylinder head and the fibres attached from the inside making it necessary to remove the cylinder head or cam cover before the module can be replaced.
