[Also in Division G1] A device for ejecting a defective card e.g. a defective tabulating-card, from a rotating carrier wheel 21 having circumferentiallyspaced cards 23 releasably attached thereto comprises a pin 57 normally biased out of the way of the path of the cards but projectible so as to engage a leading corner edge of card and cause the card to be turned, so that its diagonally opposite corner is engaged by a pair of rotating rollers 63, 65 which draw the card away from the wheel. The wheel 21, which is a drier wheel, has grippers 35 for engaging the leading edges of the cards as they leave a web-printing and cutting machine. The side edges of the cards extend beyond the rim 33 of the wheel, and adjacent one edge is situated the ejector device 31. This comprises the pin 57 fixed to one end of the armature 53 of an electromagnet 47, the other end of the armature being pivoted. A spring 55 biases the armature 53 away from the electromagnet and the pin 57 downwardly out of the way of the cards. A defect sensed in the web by a photo-electric device as described in Specification 660,827 causes energization of the magnet 47 so as to move the pin 57 into the path of the one corner of a leading edge of the corresponding card so as to effect ejection of the card. Removing curl from the card.-A wire 85 pivoted at its upper end is engaged at its lower end by cards having an outward curl greater than is desirable and closes a switch 87 which completes a circuit to a plate and straightener block acting on the unprinted web.</p> |
