A process for producing an optically active liquid crystal polymer compound excelling in mechanical strength or optical performance efficiently at low cost, characterized in that a liquid crystal polymer compound having an ester bond in its main chain or side chain is reacted with a hydroxylated optically active low molecular compound so as to incorporate the low molecular compound in the polymer compound as a unit having an optically active group.
