Described herein is the use of carboxy-amino saccharide (CAS) acid for preparing a feed additive intended to improve animal health, particularly bovine cattle, thus increasing their weight and size without undesirable side effects and toxic residues in meat and milk. The present invention further increases the production of milk, and the bioavailability of nutrients, thereby improving animal health and enhancing the growth of cellulolytic bacteria, the supplement being a bacteriostatic and virustatic agent.
