<PICT:0947340/C3/1> An electroluminescent plate-shaped lamp has a layer of phosphor 5 embedded in easily fusible glass 4 and located between two electrodes 3 and 7 of which at least one is translucent or transparent, a glass cover 8 and a water-repellent silicone coating 9 which may cover the whole of the lamp. The electrodes 3 and 7 can be of transparent conducting tin oxide. A layer 2 of white enamel or paint, a metallic (e.g. sheet steel) base-plate 1 and a layer of glass 6 are also provided. The silicone coating can be formed by dipping into a silicone oil emulsion, by spraying-on a silicone oil emulsion and heating to 300-350 DEG C. for about 5 to 20 minutes. Alternatively, the silicone oil emulsion coating can be irradiated with U.V. light with simultaneous similar heating. The heating and irradiation by U.V. light also improves the luminosity of the phosphor as referred to in Specification 921,863. |
