950,212. Measuring density of steam. SULZER FRERES S.A. March 20,1961 [March 30, 1960], No. 10111/61. Heading G1S. [Also in Division G3] A device for measuring the specific volume of steam comprises a double bellows 104, Fig. 5 closed by a cap 103 and containing an appropriate quantity of steam. Steam flowing through a pipe 101 maintains the trapped steam at the temperature of the flowing steam and differences in pressure move a diaphragm 117 to actuate an electric motor 113 which moves a rod 104<SP>1</SP> to raise or lower the cap 103 until the pressures are equalized. The position of rod 104<SP>1</SP> is indicative of the specific volume. A device for measuring instantaneous density in a pipe 130 Fig. 6, comprises a radioactive emitter 133 and two radiation measuring devices 140,142, the first measures the radioactive material absorbed by the steam while the second measures the radiation from the emitter. A comparison of these two readings provides a measurement of density of the steam in the pipe.
