<p>An apparatus for forming bulbs 22 on a cable bolt 4 comprises a frame 1, a cable securing means 3, and a movable bulbing assembly 5 which is able to releasably engage the cable at more than one location along its length thus allowing one or more bulbs to be formed along the length of the cable. The bulbing assembly preferably comprises two clamp sets 6,8 mounted to a movable base 7. One clamp set 8 is moved towards the other clamp set 6 to cause the cable to spread and form a bulb. The base 7 may be moved to reposition the clamp sets 6,8 at a different location. A method of forming bulbs on a cable is also disclosed and comprises the steps of securing a cable to a frame, engaging a bulbing assembly at a first location on the cable, forming a bulb in the cable at the first location, releasing the bulbing assembly from the first location and repositioning it at a second location, and forming a second bulb at the second location. The cable with bulbs may be used as a rock anchor.</p> |
