A loading machine is mounted on a tractor 1 and powered from the tractor engine 4. A shovel 10 is mounted on a pivot 11 and adjustable by an hydraulic jack through a rod 12 so that a cutting edge 15 may either dig material out of the ground or collect material lying on the ground. Material collected by the shovel 10 due to forward movement of the tractor 1 passes up the shovel and drops on to a first endless belt conveyer 30 transversely mounted on the tractor. The conveyer 30 comprises a conveyer belt 31, 32 curved to form a cylindrical surface 36 prolonged by two straight portions 37, 38. The belt 31, 32 is provided with metal rakes 39 and rims 33 and is reinforced by transverse metal frame elements. The speed of translational movement of the belt 31, 32 is such that the material conveyed remains applied against the belt 31 by centrifugal force until it passes on to a second conveyer 50 with a belt 51 with rims 52 trained round drums 53, 54. The second conveyer 50 may be mounted for rotation about a vertical axis 55 situated in the vertical plane containing the axis of the drum 53 and also about the axis of the drum 53. Material discharged from the conveyer 50 over the drum 54 may fall into a vehicle or on to the ground. |
