The method involves determining by a mobile telephone terminal (10), using a communication routing rule downloaded on the terminal, one of alternative and cellular channels (A, C) to be utilized for effectuating a communication session. The terminal acts as a dual mode terminal and establishes a connection with a cellular communication network (100) and with an access point (210) of an IP network (200) to effectuate the session. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a communication routing rules distribution server (2) a mobile telephone terminal adapted to communicate on one of two communication channels.
