The circuit has a boost circuit (50) delivering voltage twice that of a vehicle electrical network between its two output terminals (52, 54) connected to respective terminals (32, 38) of a field coil (12). The voltage between the terminals (52, 54) is clipped by switches (34, 40) that are controlled by a regulator (22) such that an average voltage applied to the terminals (32, 38) is in the same order of the voltage of the network.
