The device has an electronic unit (7) that automatically controls a hydraulic power pack, a simple solenoid valve and a double solenoid valve based on signals delivered by a speed and direction sensor (8) to block rear and front steering bars (34, 33) when a vehicle moves reverse and forward, respectively. The unit blocks the bars when the advancement speed of the vehicle, in the forward motion, exceeds a threshold value. An independent claim is also included for a trailer type vehicle.
