PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate operation when a battery of longer length is installed in a battery box or taken out from it in which installation of batteries of different lengths is possible. SOLUTION: This is the battery box 10 having a box part 11 capable of installing the batteries of different lengths in the lengthwise direction through an opening part 111, and a battery cap 12 to open and close the opening part, and this is provided with a battery locking claw 115 to lock the battery in the box part 11 when the battery of the longer length is installed, and a locking release piece 125 to release locking of the battery by the battery locking claw 115 when opening the battery cap 12. When the battery is installed in the battery box 11 or taken out from it, because the battery is locked by the battery locking claw 115, the battery cap 12 can be opened and closed with a smaller force. Because the locking is released immediately before the battery cap 12 is opened, when the battery cap 12 is opened, the battery is protruded from the box part 11 by a spring force of a battery contact piece 112, and the battery can be taken out easily.
