PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mercury-free high-pressure discharge lamp which is intended to improve electrical and lamp characteristics. SOLUTION: The high-pressure discharge lamp is provided with an airtight container 1 composed of transparent ceramics which have a discharge space inside and contain no silicon (Si) as a component element, a pair of electrodes 2 which are sealed inside the airtight container 1 and face a discharge space 1c, and an ionization medium sealed inside the airtight container 1. This ionization medium contains thulium (Tm) halides with a maximum sealing ratio, aluminum (Al) or aluminum halides, and noble gas, but is essentially mercury-free. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
