PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk device which can be incorporated in a present industry standard size while, highly maintaining magnetic shield property in the device, without changing the size of a whole device housing so much. SOLUTION: This magnetic disk device is provided with a base housing which is made from a nonmagnetic material, and houses a disk drive mechanism having a magnetic disk and a magnetic head; a top cover which is made form a soft magnetic material and encloses the base housing; and a magnetic shield member having a plane shield section facing a plane region of the base housing facing a moving range of the magnetic head on the magnetic disk, and a conductive section which continues from the plane shield section and contacts with the top cover inside the base housing.
