PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speed control device with increased safety during traveling rearwards. SOLUTION: This speed control device comprises a gear detection means 2 detecting a state set to a reverse gear, an acceleration limit means 5 limiting the depressed amounts of accelerators 6 and 6a so that the accelerators cannot be depressed beyond a prescribed amount, a side brake detection means 3 detecting the ON/OFF state of a side brake, and an acceleration limit control means 4 receiving signals set in the reverse gear from the gear detection means 2 to limit the depressed amounts of the accelerators 6 and 6a by the acceleration limit means 5 and receiving the ON signal of the side brake from the side brake detection means 3 to reset the limit of the depressions of the accelerators by the acceleration limit means 5.
