PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an ester compound, capable of efficiently producing the ester compound from (meth)acrylic acid and an alcohol, consequently capable of decreasing impurities derived from a catalyst and giving the ester compound which is not discolored, further capable of easily separating the catalyst from a product, by using a solid catalyst as the catalyst, and therefore capable of easily conducting reuse of the catalyst and purification of the product. SOLUTION: This method for producing the ester compound comprises producing the ester compound from the (meth)acrylic acid and the alcohol, wherein the ester compound is produced by using the catalyst which is obtained from a polycyclic hydrocarbon and sulfuric acid.
