A golf club head comprises a metal blade, a hosel formed of metal tubing and fixed to the blade, a weight supported on the blade, and a sheath of plastics material either wholly or partially enclosing the blade and hosel. In the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 4, the club head comprises a blade 10 welded to a hosel, a weight 13 held to the back of the blade by a metal casing 12 welded to the blade, and a sheath 14 of plastics material such as glassfibre-filled nylon moulded on to the assembled blade and hosel. Alternatively, as shown in Fig. 8, the blade is thickened at its lower edge and the lower end 27 of the hosel tube 25 is received in a bore which extends parallel to the lower edge of the blade within the thickened portion thereof and is held in place by one or more cross-pins 28. The weight then comprises an insert 29 of heavy metal in the portion 27 of the hosel tube, and the sheath of plastics material stops short of the lower edge of the blade. In both embodiments the blades are formed with grooves and apertures to assist in keying the material of the sheath thereto.</p> |
