The reader has a contacting unit (2) inserted through a card inserting opening and arranged in a bag (6) opened at the opening, where the bag has a finely woven conducting path structure having continuous conductor paths. The bag is formed by overlapping sections formed from a conductor path foil, where the sections include conductor ends electrically connected to a conductor. A side of the bag forms a base of the reader and includes a recess, which contacts the unit such that a terminal contact of the unit is within the recess. The conductor paths are cut through when the bag is damaged.
