An optical disc device record data or reproduce data to/from a plurality of types of optical discs including a recording-enabled optical disc and a reproduction-dedicated optical disc manufactured according to the BD standard. The device includes: means (506, 507) for applying a light beam to a management area (502) of an optical disc (501) in the state not performing tracking control and generating a track position signal (push-pull TE or phase difference TE) from the light reflected from the management area (502); and disc judgment means for judging whether the optical disc (501) mounted on the optical disc device is a recording-enabled disc or a reproduction-dedicated disc according to the track position signal obtained from the management area (502).
