PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering gear of a ship, lessening the holding force of a ship operator not to get tired at the time of turning a steering wheel in a fixed angle and holding the same against a paddle rudder effect in a small ship. SOLUTION: This steering gear of a ship includes: a steering wheel 7 operated by the ship operator; a steering wheel control input sensor 9 for detecting the control input of the steering wheel 7; and a steering wheel motor 11 for applying turning force to the steering wheel 7, wherein when the steering wheel 7 is turned in a predetermined angle or more, the steering wheel motor 11 is driven with a predetermined return torque in the direction of returning to the neutral position. The return torque is zero within a predetermined angle region in the vicinity of the neutral position so that any steering wheel return force is not applied. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
