[Also in Division B5] Apparatus for heat-sealing a thermoplastic wrapper comprises at least one heated plate 41 having a member, e.g. a driven endless belt 51, extending along the surface of the plate for engaging an adjacent end of a wrapped article 13 and advancing the wrapped article relative to the plates. The wrapped article 13 is advanced over a table 15 by a pusher 16 to be engaged by the continuous belts 51 formed from woven glass fibres, having a non-stick coating. The heating plates 41 are pivoted at 61 and resiliently pressed against the article by springs 33 so as to accommodate slight variations in the size of the wrapped article. The belts are slackly mounted to compensate for any speed differentials arising through skew delivery or slippage of the articles and are driven by rollers 53 with which they are held in engagement by a spring clip 93 having a trough portion 95. A single sealing plate may be used, the opposite side of the wrapped article riding along idler rollers.</p> |
