<p>A simplified method for joining rail track sections, e.g. rail track lengths, switching points etc., uses arc discharge welding with the weld site flooded by an inert gas, and low alloy high carbon steel. The upper weld generates a weld bead (18) and the track sections are secured via upper and lower beads. The steel has a carbon content of 0.6 to 0.9 percent and the weld process is between 28 and 37 Volts and 400 to 650 Amps, with the upper weld at a higher current and voltage than the lower weld.</p> |
