PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens meter capable of easily, speedily, and accurately measuring the refractive indices of lens materials. SOLUTION: The lens meter comprises members 20A-20D for refractive index measurement and members 20α-20δfor refractive index measurement. The members 20A-20D for refractive index measurement include close contact members 21A-21D of close contact surfaces 21Aa-21Da formed in a shape matched with the surface shape of lenses to be inspected L1-L4 having different refractive powers, and members 20α-20δfor refractive index measurement include close contact members 21α-21δhaving close contact surfaces 21αa-21δa formed in a shape matched with the back surface shape of the lenses to be inspected L1-L4. The refractive index of a single lens to be inspected L is measured. A pair of members 20 for refractive index measurement are mounted to the surface and back surface of the lens to be measured L to measure their composite refractive power. On the basis of these measurement results and the refractive index of the close contact members 21, the refractive index of the material forming the lens to be inspected L is computed. In the case that measurement values of the prism degrees and composite prism degree of the single lens to be inspected L exceed prescribed values, a message is displayed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
