PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air sorting apparatus and an air sorting method efficiently sorting substances in a sorting object into three or more classes in weight. SOLUTION: This sorting apparatus is provided with two or more vertical zigzag flow passages C<SB>1</SB>, C<SB>2</SB>, and updraft is formed therein. The zigzag flow passages C<SB>1</SB>, C<SB>2</SB>have boundary weights different from each other wherein, when the sorting object is supplied thereto, light matter rises being affected by the updraft and heavy matter falls. The apparatus is constituted to firstly start sorting from the passage C<SB>1</SB>having the heavier boundary weight. The sorting object is sorted into the light matter and heavy matter in the passage C<SB>1</SB>, and the light matter is supplied to the passage C<SB>2</SB>as the sorting object.
