A film forming composition that attains an improvement to the solubility of hole injection/transport material and/or electron acceptor compound and has an appropriate drying rate capable of stably forming of a uniform coating film, being suitable for the formation of a hole injection/transport layer. This composition comprises a hole injection/transport material and/or electron acceptor compound and a liquid wherein the hole injection/transport material and/or electron acceptor compound is dissolved. This liquid mainly contains a solvent having in its molecule an aromatic ring and/or aliphatic ring and an oxygen atom and having either a boiling point of = 200°C or a vapor pressure of = 1 torr at 25°C.
