<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup device capable of detecting a spherical aberration with high accuracy without an increase in cost and size of the device, and an optical disk drive device comprising the optical pickup device. <P>SOLUTION: The optical pickup device 1 for irradiating an optical recording medium with laser light L emitted from a laser light source 2 via optical elements 3 and 6, comprises a signal detecting means 11 for detecting a focus error signal, and an aberration detecting means 12 for detecting a spherical aberration on the optical recording medium based on a maximum value and a minimum value of an amplitude of the focus error signal detected by the signal detecting means 11. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
