PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an OSD superposition circuit which forms OSD signals of different character data formats, with a single OSD circuit and switches an OSD superposition means so as to use the OSD superposition means that is suitable for each piece of data. SOLUTION: The OSD superposition circuit 1 is equipped with a frequency divider 14; a clock-switching unit 15 for switching OSD clock given to an OSD signal generator 17 and a synchronization signal switching unit 16 for switching HD/VD, by means of the OSD superposition means selecting signal; an OSD signal generating unit 17 which reads out the OSD data of different formats from a first memory 12 and a second memory 17, and generates OSD signals synchronized with the OSD clock and HD/VD; and an OSD switching unit 18, which outputs the OSD signals to the OSD superposition means, instructed by OSD superposition means selecting signals.
